Over 1000 Old Mutual staff give 67 minutes to help READ to RISE on 18 July 2014

On Mandela Day, 18 July 2014, over 1000 Old Mutual staff in Cape Town and Johannesburg gave 67 minutes of their day to help READ to RISE to promote literacy in communities in need.

Programme Director, Taryn Lock, attended the event at Mutualpark in Pinelands. The Old Mutual staff were fantastic. So much effort was put into decorating the bookmarks and covering the books nicely in plastic. Even a few executives joined in to give their 67 minutes.

Over 3000 books were covered in plastic, 4000 flashcards were assembled into packs, 1500+ stationery packs were assembled and 1500+ bookmarks were made on the day. All materials were generously supplied by Old Mutual. These will be given out to Grade 2 learners at various Primary Schools in Mitchells Plain during the second half of the year.

In addition to the Mandela day sponsorship, the Old Mutual Foundation have sponsored books and Mini-Libraries for 10 classes in Mitchells Plain - totalling new books for 400 Grade 2 learners and Mini-Libraries (containing 450 new reading books) for 10 Grade 2 classrooms.

Thank you Old Mutual!
